چکیده

A method is described for the fluorometric determination of fecal bile acids. The method combines solvent extraction and thin-layer chromatography (TLC) isolation tech nics with a fluorometric method for measuring total bile acids. Recoveries of individual bile acids added to feces averaged 107% with a standard deviation of ± 5.6%. Bile acid excretion in normal human subjects on a self-selected mixed diet ranged from 196 to 460 mg. total bile acids per 24 hr.

Estimation of bile acid excretion in man: comparison of isotopic turnover and fecal excretion methods

Bile acid excretion was studied in 9 human subjects simultaneously by the Lindstedt (Lindstedt, S. 1957. Acta Physwl. Scand. 4O:l-9) isotopic turnover method and by fecal chemical analysis during a balance study. The identities of the fecal bile acids were confirmed by combined gas-liquid chromatography /mass spectrometry. Under the steady state conditions of the patient studies, bile acid excr...

A technique for extraction and thin layer chromatography visualization of fecal bile acids applied to neotropical felid scats.

Fecal bile acid patterns have been used successfully to identify scats. Neotropical felid scats are capable of this biochemical identification because they present low concentrations of plant pigments that would interfere in fecal bile acids detection. However, neotropical felid scats have poor quantities of bile acids, so we developed in this work a proper technique for their extraction, visua...

Effect of different olive oils on bile excretion in rats fed cholesterol-containing and cholesterol-free diets.

The mechanism of the hypocholesterolemic effect of olive oils was investigated in 60 Wistar rats adapted to cholesterol-containing and cholesterol-free diets. The rats were divided in six diet groups of 10. The control group was fed only basal diet (BD), which contained wheat starch, casein, cellulose, and mineral and vitamin mixtures. For the five other groups, 10 g/100 g virgin (virgin group)...

Enrichment of the more hydrophilic bile acid ursodeoxycholic acid in the fecal water-soluble fraction after feeding to rats with colon polyps.

We recently showed that feeding the cytoprotective bile acid ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) to rats resulted in significant reduction in polyps and especially cancers, both in number and size (D. L. Earnest et al., Cancer Res., 54: 5071-5074, 1994). Because fecal secondary bile acids [particularly deoxycholic acid (DCA)] are considered to promote formation of colon adenomas and cancer, we have now...

Microbiota transplantation restores normal fecal bile acid composition in recurrent Clostridium difficile infection.

Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) has emerged as a highly effective therapy for refractory, recurrent Clostridium difficile infection (CDI), which develops following antibiotic treatments. Intestinal microbiota play a critical role in the metabolism of bile acids in the colon, which in turn have major effects on the lifecycle of C. difficile bacteria. We hypothesized that fecal bile acid c...
